How to get the most out of your reed diffuser

How to get the most out of your reed diffuser

Check out some of our tips to help your favourite fragrance diffuser last longer, smell stronger, and keep your space smelling amazing.

What is a reed diffuser?

A reed diffuser is a type of fragrance diffuser. They are a perfect alternative to a candle as they can be left unattended while diffusing your favourite scent. They are also a great eco-friendly option as they are often made from natural or recycled materials and do not require an energy source.

Reed diffusers offer a wide variety of aesthetic options. A unique diffuser bottle can make a great statement piece on your shelf and elevate your space. Quality fragrance diffusers will last for several months, making them an excellent economical choice as well.

How does a reed diffuser work?

A reed diffuser consists of three elements. First, there is the fragrance oil. Next, there is the vessel that contains the fragrance oil, which is typically made of glass. Lastly, a reed diffuser requires natural wood reeds. These reeds have small capillaries that absorb the fragrance oil. The oil climbs ups and then evaporates at the top of the reeds. This allows the fragrance to be dispersed into the air.

In many ways, your reeds act like a perfume straw. The process is super simple, and super fragrant all at once!

How to Take Care of a Reed Diffuser

  1. Flip your reeds to strengthen the scent

To help refresh and strengthen the scent of your diffuser, you can flip your reeds every so often. This helps to prevent your reeds from getting clogged and blocking the flow of the fragrance. However, be mindful you aren’t flipping your reeds too often. This might lead to too much oil absorption and shorten the overall lifespan of your fragrance.

  1. Match the number of reeds to the size of your space

Before you find a spot for your new diffuser, stop, and consider the size of the room it will be in. The size of the room will help you determine how many reeds you need to place in your vessel. For a smaller space, you should only need 3-4 reeds to enjoy your fragrance. Whereas a larger space may need a few extra reeds to help the scent fill the room.

  1. Be mindful of dust

Fragrance diffusers are low maintenance and look great, but don’t just place your diffuser on a high shelf and let the dust bunnies descend. Reeds can get clogged and prevent the proper dispersion of your fragrance. If you notice your scent has weakened, wipe down your shelf, and flip your reeds. Placing your diffuser in a higher traffic area will also improve air circulation and allow you to fully enjoy the fragrance.

  1. Refill (don’t waste)

In love with your fragrance diffuser, but you’ve run out of fragrance oil? Unlike a candle, fragrance diffusers offer an eco-friendly option. Many of our favourite brands have fragrance oil refills available, which allow you to keep your beautiful vessel, and restock your fragrance. This way, you save you money and reduce waste.
